Technical Information

Most probably, this tree’s got a good in the leaf essential oil of Melia Dubia cav. Has been studied by GC-MS. The leaf essential oil consists chiefly of monoterpenses (35.71%) and oxygenated monoterpenses (27.98%), sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (9.26%) and phenylpropanoids (3.90%). The monoterpene camphene occurs as a major constituent (21.68%) of this leaf essential oil. It is accompanied by a noticeable amount of and pinene (3.12% and 5.13%, respectively) and a much smaller amont of sabinene (2.75%). The oxygenated monoterpenes are distinctly dominated by the presence of the bicyclic ketone camphor (17.85%), while iso-borneol and borneol are detected in much smaller amounts (4.15% and 1.12%, respectively)

SEASONING AND PRESERVATION BEHAVIOR The timber seasons well if the logs are converted in a green state, though if left long in the log, it is liable to develop end splitting and decoration. Like many other malicious timbers, it contacts very considerably across the grain while drying out. The best method of dealing with the timber is to convert the logs as soon after felling as possible and to open stack the sawn material, preferable undercover to avoid grey satin.

BASIC FEATURES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GROWTH :- In addition to the basic facgors fo sunlight, water and soil, the following factors are also greatly influence your crop selection.

  1. Maturity age of the tree
  2. Canopy cover
  3. Trees that causes a nutrition depletion in the soil, and allelopathic in nature.
  4. Planting of trees which are natural host to insect pests
  5. For mixed cropping, selection of one long duration crop and one short duration crop with adequate spacing is ideal, Normally short and long duration tree crops are advised to plant in alternate rows so that the later established well after the removal of short duration trees.
  6. Kumim+Casuarina is also the best option.

The rooted saplings are planted onset of the monsoon or during the monsoon. The suggested pit size is 24” x 24” x24” cube. Escapement of 12’x12’ is recommended. This will give better girth in shorter duration.

CULTIVATION METHOD : The melia dubia cultivation is very familier among all farmers & public. Really the melia dubia is very fine tree variety in india. Melia dubia is the very fast growing variety in the universe without adopting any high technology. The ordinary seedlings is enough for cultivation. The major drawback of the melia dubia is the germination. The seeds are very very hard nuts like Rudraksha. So the melia dubia will takes minimum 2 to 4 months for germination. But its not beleivable .This is true. And also the melia dubia seeds will not germinate at once or at a streth.if we put some thousands of seeds we will get some 100 seeds will get germinated .50 we cant get thousans of seedlings. The melia dubia plant grow very fast. This plant attain the DBH on completion of 6 years minimum 100 cms maximum 165 cms.The density of the tree will be 330kg/cubic meter. The melia dubia is very opt for biomas energy product. The caloric reading will be recorded as 5100 calories.

The details of quality & technical specifications are as follows.
  1. The logs had very high moisture contents and were green.
  2. All logs were round and good for peeling. Roundness seems to be inherent quality of this tree.
  3. Logs peel easily.
  4. Outturn is excellent - 70% & better in fresh cut logs.
  5. Veneer strong and firm.
  6. Two small logs were peeled for faces. Quality obtained was acceptable.
  7. M.R.Grade Plywood pressed with these veneers and in combination with other veneers gave excellent results. (Pearson & Brown, I 243; Macmillan, 96, 213; Cameran, 64; Trotter, 1944, 217; Rama Rao, 73; Indian For., 1948, 74, 279)
